Neoceratodus modified after Spencer [73] shows the cerebral
carotids (CCA) and an intercarotid commissure (Com) arising from
anterior carotids (ACA). The CCAs divide into ACC and PCC
divisions within the braincase. The PCCs continue as paired
basilars (pBAs) that give off transverse branches. Posterior carotid
arteries (PCAs), which represent remnants of the original ICA
trunk, extend rostrally from the paired dorsal aorta and continue as
the orbital arteries (Orbs) without connecting with the CCA.
