Imprint |
Discrete impression interpreted to have been produced by a walking limb. |
Track |
Imprint repeating itself at regular intervals, typically interpreted to have been produced by a single limb. |
Trail |
Any continuous impression. |
Trackway |
Combination of impressions, imprints or trails displayed in a recognizable manner across the substrate. |
Midline |
Theoretical line parallel to the long axis of the trackway and located halfway between the external margins. |
Medial |
Referring to imprints positioned anywhere between the greatest lateral extent of the trackway. |
Stride |
Distance between two adjacent tracks on the same side of and measured parallel to the medial line. Note again that tracks occur at standard intervals. |
Width |
Distance between outer edges of tracks measured across the midline. |
Trackset |
Complete set of one each of the total number of tracks along the long axis of the trackway before repetition.
This can be applied to groups of tracks on either or both sides of the
midline. |
