Tyler received his training in Experimental Psychology at the Universities of Leicester, Aston and Keele, UK, before completing post-doctoral fellowships at Northeastern University (USA), University of Bristol (UK) and Bell Laboratories. Dr. Tyler is a visual neuroscientist, creator of the autostereogram (“Magic Eye” pictures) and serves as the Head of the Smith-Kettlewell Brain Imaging Center, San Francisco, CA, USA. His current research interests are in the fields of visual perception and visual neuroscience. His latest contributions involve theoretical, psychophysical and functional MRI studies of the structure of global processes, such as structure from motion, symmetry, figure/ground and stereoscopic depth perception and their susceptibility to damage in traumatic brain injury.
